Tax Credits

City Union Mission has on hand Missouri's Affordable Housing Assistance Program (AHAP) tax credits that we are offering to donors on a first-come, first-served basis. These tax credits are available to donors who have a Missouri business tax liability, and who make gifts of $5,000 and greater designated to the Warehouse and Support Facility for the Mission.

Missouri AHAP credits “earn” you $0.55 on the dollar, so a $5,000 gift provides a $2,750 tax credit. You have 10 years in which you can use all or a portion of them against your Missouri tax liability – or, you may sell them on the open market. Latest reports were that these tax credits were trading $0.90 on the dollar.

The project is for our Warehouse and Support Facility, which lies between the Men’s Center and our Family Center, providing critical storage and job training space and will be the new home of our Christmas Store. By giving us the option to relocate some program offices, this facility has the potential to provide temporary shelter space in case we reach capacity limits. Our total project cost is approximately $435,000 and we can offer tax credits on every dollar of the project – as long as our allocation lasts.  We can process large donations on this as well.  If someone wanted to pay off the building for us, they could do so for approximately $300,000 and we have confirmation that the whole amount would qualify for these AHAP tax credits.

You must have a Missouri business tax liability to qualify for these credits. Click here for a FAQ document from the program that helps define who qualifies, plus it has other useful information.  Special rules apply if you are a Kansas resident with a Missouri tax liability. Consult your professional tax advisor to assess whether these tax credits are beneficial to your specific tax situation.
