BOOKS ADMIN

Evaluate books using a software program and scanner. You would then put them in their appropriate category, according to their value. Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

CAMP BUS ATTENDANT

Supervise campers on the bus trip to or from Camp CUMCITO in Warsaw, Missouri. Bus monitors will meet the morning of the trip to receive training by the Mission staff. Requires a 5 to 6 hour commitment.

DATA ENTRY ADMIN

Perform computer data entry. Various projects. Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT

Support Development Team members by making phone calls, performing computer work (MS Word & Excel), and any other administrative task that may need assistance. Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

FACILITIES ADMIN

Assist facilities crew in daily tasks of landscaping, cleaning, painting, etc. Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

MAINTENANCE ADMIN

Perform various maintenance chores that are on the agenda for that day; such as washing windows, sweeping floors, mopping floors, wiping down tables, etc.  Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

MAINTENANCE FAMILY CENTER

Perform maintenance duties at the Family Center; such as painting, cleaning, repairing drywall, or other chores that need to be done. Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

MEAL PROVIDER - CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER (CLC)

Share-A-Meal: Pay for up to 100 guests at the CLC and serve the meal ($200). You may bring up to 10 people to help prepare and serve. 2 hours.

Bring & Serve: Bring dinner already prepared for up to 100 guests at the CLC and serve the meal. You may bring up to 10 people to help serve. 2 hours.

THRIFT STORE

Positions include: Sorter/Receiving Clerk, Cashier, Clothes Displayer /Sales Clerk, Store Attendant,  Sign-Maker, Merchandiser: Requires a 2 to 8 hour commitment.

CHRISTMAS GIFT DELIVERERS (Dec)

Gift Deliverers are scheduled to arrive every 15 minutes to pick-up gifts from our Christmas Store location -- this allows time for gifts to be loaded into cars without everyone arriving at once.  You'll pick up your families' gifts and get delivery instructions and directions to each family's residence. You'll deliver gifts and whatever food items we have to send with you. Please allow 2-3 hours for your deliveries. This year's delivery - TBD, from 9 am - Noon.

CHRISTMAS GIFT WRAPPER (Nov-Dec)

After the family has selected their gifts in the store, the gifts are bagged and tagged. The gifts are then taken to the wrapping station where volunteers wrap them, apply name tags, and place the family's gifts in a giant red sack to be delivered to their home a few days before Christmas.

CHRISTMAS STORE SHOPPER'S ASSISTANT (Nov-Dec)

Each shopper at our Christmas Store is accompanied by an assistant to help them select gifts for their families. Once all the gifts have been selected, then the assistant bags the gifts in preparation for the gift wrappers.

STOCKING STUFFER SORTER (Nov-Dec)

We have many small items that we need sorters to seperate into appropriate categories for Christmas stockings.

 

High Impact Volunteer Opportunities

VOLUNTEER PROJECT LEADER - ADMINISTRATION

This volunteer will lead, organize, and direct volunteer groups working on various projects throughout the mission. The projects range from cleaning to construction to retail training.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE INTERVIEWER - FAMILY CENTER (FC)

The Community Assistance Interviewer works closely with CA staff and volunteers, community clients at our Family Center, located at 1310 Wabash. During the interviewing process, his/her primary responsibility is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and give encouragement concerning spiritual growth. Therefore, the CA Interviewer must be a Christian with good communication skills, who can clearly communicate the plan of salvation.

Usually, the CA Interviewer is asked to make a commitment to work one day a week, 2 to 3 hours a day for a minimum of six months.

The normal hours volunteers are needed are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 1:00 - 4:00 pm. However, there are two special seasons, during which the CA department is involved in an intensive interviewing process. During those times, the CA Interviewer may be asked to serve on an extended basis.

LEARNING CENTER ACADEMIC ASSISTANT CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER (CLC)

The Learning Center Academic Assistant works with the Learning Center (LC) Supervisor and Christian Life Program members, in our Christian Life Center. His/her primary duties are to assist the LC Supervisor to administer the academic program by conducting academic assessments and scoring those assessments; monitoring classroom activities (answering questions), possibly giving tutoring, and leading lower level reading groups.

This volunteer must be a Christian who is a high school graduate with good communication skills and the ability to work with people one-on-one.

The LC Academic Assistant is asked to make a commitment to volunteer one day a week, for a minimum of 2 hours for a minimum of six months. The days and hours volunteers are needed in the Learning Center are Monday through Thursday, 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

RETREAT COOK (Warsaw) - CHRISTIAN LIFE PROGRAM (CLP)

The Cook will work closely with Christian Life Program staff to provide meals for the men while on retreat In Warsaw. This volunteer will be responsible for preparing three meals a day, for tracking foods used outside of regular groceries, for cleaning cooking areas regularly, and for the final cleaning of area for next group. Assistance with the dishes and serving will be provided. This volunteer must have both experience in cooking for large groups, and a willingness to serve the men. He must be professional and kind in the performance of his service.

The time commitment for this event is from September 14-16, 2011.

RETREAT NURSE (Warsaw) - CHRISTIAN LIFE PROGRAM (CLP)

The Nurse will work closely with Christian Life Program staff to provide medical service to the men while on retreat in Warsaw, to prevent any unnecessary trips to Emergency Room. This volunteer is needs to be available and on-call for all medical issues. He will be responsible for reviewing all medical issues to determine seriousness and for providing meds for allergies, allergic reactions, headaches, etc. This volunteer must be licensed or have previous nursing experience. Additionally, he must have a willingness to serve the men. In the performance of his service he be professional and kind.

The time commitment for this event is from September 14-16, 2011.

SOCK AND UNDERWEAR DISTRIBUTOR

The Sock and Underwear Distributor works closely with the Community Assistance staff, volunteers and clients in our Family Center, to assist the School
Supply Project with the distribution of socks and underwear.

This volunteer must be a Christian with testimony of salvation through Jesus Christ alone; one who is neat and conscientious, able to follow specific
instructions and able to work well with people, and deal with hostility in a positive way.

This volunteer is asked to serve one or more times a week during the following times: Monday through Friday, morning (9:30 am to 1:00 pm) or afternoon (12:30 pm to 4:15pm).

TUTOR - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - VANDERBERG YOUTH CENTER (VYC)

The Elementary School Tutor works closely with the Education Coordinator and the youth at the VYC. These volunteers assist students in daily homework and enhance critical skill development in necessary growth areas for the academic success of the student.

The Elementary School Tutor must be a Christian. He/she must have a desire to build relationships with children and a willingness to learn how to effectively assist students through tutoring.

The Elementary School Tutor is asked to volunteer 1.5 hours per week, from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm, any day Monday through Thursday, during the months from September to May.

TUTOR - MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL - VANDERBERG YOUTH CENTER (VYC)

The Middle-High School Tutor works closely with the Education Coordinator and the youth at the VYC. These volunteers assist students in daily homework and enhance critical skill development in necessary growth areas for the academic success of the student.

The Middle-High School Tutor must be a Christian with a GED or high school Diploma. He/she must have a desire to build relationships with adolescents and a willingness to learn how to effectively assist students through tutoring.

The Middle-high School Tutor is asked to volunteer 1.5 hours per week, from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm, each Monday or Wednesday, during the months from September to May.

YOUTH COORDINATOR ASSISTANT - VANDERBERG YOUTH CENTER (VYC)

The Youth Coordinator Assistant works closely with the Youth Administrator, Youth Coordinators, other Youth Coordinator Assistants, and the Youth Program Students, to provide leadership and supervision during program hours.

This volunteer must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have been regularly involved in a local church for at least one year. His/her life must demonstrate Christian character. He/She must be at least 4 years older than typical students, prefer age 16 or older. He/she must have the ability to assist with academic skills (e.g. basic reading, math) and the ability to manage unruly behavior with love.

The Youth Coordinator Assistant is asked to make a commitment to volunteer for at least one session per week during the months of September to May. These sessions vary in time and in clientele.

The dates and times are as follows: 

  • 2:30 - 5:15 pm Mon-Thurs (Re: Creation (4x/wk); grades 9-12)
  • 3:30 - 5:15 pm Mon-Thurs (Re: Creation (4x/wk); grades 1-5 & 6-8)
  • 5:30 - 6:45 pm Mon-Thurs (Shelter Residents (4x/wk); grades K-12)
  • 6:15 - 7:45 pm Mon-Thurs (Bible Club (1x/wk); grades K-12)
