Churches Rally to Meet Overcrowding Problems

When the Mission was in its infancy, we held tent rallies to raise interest in our ministry. In the same spirit, on April 29, the Mission held a tent rally where 140 representatives from area churches came to hear how they could help the Mission continue its ministry to the homeless.

"The goal of the rally was to raise awareness of the Mission’s needs," says Dennis Chapman, director of development. Nearly every night, our Men’s Center is packed full, and men languish on the waiting list of our long-term recovery program. "The overcrowding is getting worse, and we don’t anticipate any relief," he adds.

To meet these ever-growing needs, the Mission is launching the Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives capital campaign. Among other things, the funds raised during the campaign will be used to renovate the Men’s Center, doubling the capacity for emergency shelter and expanding the kitchen.

"Our goal is to raise $1 million from the church community during the month of June," says Dennis Chapman, director of development.

At the rally, church representatives received a "tool kit" filled with information about the campaign, including client testimonies, Power Point presentations and sermon notes.
