Compassion in Action - Creating Caring Kids
Scout’s Honor
Boy Scout Sean Bodendistel has had a lot of fun attending summer camp. So for his Eagle Scout project, this charitable 8th grader decided to do something that would enhance the experience of the homeless and needy kids who attend Camp CUMCITO (City Union Mission’s Camp In The Ozarks).
Sean set up three fundraisers with Camp CUMCITO as the recipient. At an area Wal-Mart store, he raised $1,158 by handing out baked goods in exchange for donations. He’s also working with Wal-Mart to match those funds.
Next, he held a car wash outside an Ace Hardware store, where he raised $300.
Finally, he asked members of his church, Holy Trinity Church in Lenexa, to donate supplies for camp. Members brought in bags of goods and hundreds of dollars as well.
Sean followed in the footsteps of his big brother, Kirk, who collected supplies for City Union Mission as part of his Eagle Scout project.
"City Union Mission is a good organization," Sean says. "Homelessness is a big need, and a lot of people responded to that and wanted to help out."
