Art from the Heart

Walk down the hallways of City Union Mission and you’ll be greeted by photos of the homeless and poor who have found hope here, many beautifully framed by Affordable Framing in Smithville, Mo.

Jacki Tilk, owner, donated thousands of dollars in framing materials and time to see that photos taken by Development Director Dennis Chapman were framed in style so they could touch the hearts of Mission visitors.

Jacki not only provided her services free of change, she asked friends and vendors to do the same.  With her encouragement, Picture & Frame Industries in Kansas City, Kan., donated boxes of supplies and Dale Lightfoot of Lightfoot Photography in Kansas City, Mo., contributed countless frames.

For Jacki, what started as a quick charity project became a life-changing event. "It was the most humbling experience I’ve ever had," she shares, explaining how she was impressed by the Mission’s ability to see the best in people when they were at their worst.

"We all get wrapped up in our day-to-day, trivial problems," she says. "We don’t see the people out there who truly need help."
