Dear Friends,
It’s pretty impossible to compare my childhood—probably yours, too—with those of children from the urban core.
I grew up in a small southeastern Michigan town where everyone was safe. I had parents who loved me and worked hard to make sure I grew up with things in place to help me make wise choices.
Each summer you help the Mission send 350 inner-city children to our Camp CUMCITO. Many of these kids have parents who also love them dearly, but struggle desperately in raising them. These precious kids AND their parents face amazingly difficult challenges. The parents were never taught how to be good parents, because their own parents didn't know how. As a result, each generation of children grows up in heartbreaking environments.
At Camp CUMCITO’s Tot Lot and Big Camp, we allow these young people to experience, learn and observe things they may not have otherwise ever understood to be a part of life.
They experience safety and security when they step off the bus at camp into the wide-open arms of Christian men and women who love them unconditionally. They realize around-the-clock kindness from adult leaders. Abuse that many children face at home is nonexistent at camp.
They receive encouragement to share their thoughts and feelings. They go to bed each night with the assurance they’ll hear no gunfire or gang fights.
Most importantly, these kids hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s desire for them to have joy-filled lives with Him in the center.
With your compassionate support, at-risk boys and girls get to leave their overwhelming responsibilities at home and become children again at camp. Thank you for helping make an eternal difference in their lives!
