Family Brings the Joy of Christmas to the Homeless
Compassion in Action
Marilyn Rogers Owens has gotten her entire family involved with Christmas activities at City Union Mission. “Our family is so blessed,” Marilyn shares. “Our kids have never experienced poverty. It has been such an eye opener for them to see what others go through.”

For the past few years, this compassionate family—four generations in all!—has prepared and served a fabulous meal during December to the single women and moms and dads with children staying in our Family Center. But, they’ve not stopped there. They’ve come bearing wrapped presents for everyone, holiday treats and even Santa Claus to bring cheer to the little ones.
“Any time you reach out to someone, no matter what the need, you always get back more than you give,” Marilyn says. “It’s an incredible experience.”
Your family will benefit through a holiday partnership with the Mission, too. Contact Core Volunteer Administrator Pat Brodnax at (816) 474-9380, ext. 1487 for ways you can help.
