A Bridge to New Life - Tammy Tucci
Tammy Tucci can’t stop herself from sobbing as she talks about the years she’s lost in her children’s lives - all the opportunities she missed because she was strung out on crack. But at City Union Mission, this 29-year-old mother has been given a second chance with her kids - and with her life - and now she’s making the most of every minute.
Tammy’s problems began when she fell in love with a drug addict. Within a few months, this divorced mom of two was pregnant with his child and hooked on his drugs. Things went downhill from there.
Over the next five years, nearly every penny the couple made went for drugs. "We would probably go through $700 worth of drugs in a week," Tammy says. Evicted from one rental after another, they rarely paid their bills and moved constantly to stay ahead of creditors.
When her boyfriend was jailed for stealing gas to sell for drug money, Tammy hit an all-time low. She knew she needed help getting her life together, so she and her youngest daughter came to City Union Mission, where she joined our New Life Program. Now Tammy is a Christian, she’s sober, and she’s finally reunited with her two older daughters, whom she wasn’t allowed to see when she was on drugs.
"I’m not very strong yet, but I’m really growing," says Tammy. "For the first time in years, I’m clean and sober for my girls. I get letters from them telling me they are happy I’m here."
Tammy is so thankful she received a bridge to a new life at the Mission. City Union Mission is awesome," she says. "I don’t see how I could have done it without them."
