NEWS RELEASE May 6, 2012
KANSAS CITY, Mo.––More than 300 motorcycle riders departed from the parking lot of City Union Mission’s Men’s Shelter this morning for the 23rd annual Bikers with Mission Run for the Homeless Benefit Ride. The 100-mile trip, which raises money to help the Mission assist Kansas City’s homeless and working-poor, brought in $25,600 in cash and pledges.
Glenn and JoAnn Hicks were declared this year’s grand-prize winner for securing the most pledges and cash in hand on day of the event at $1,950.
Today’s contributions increased the total for the annual ride to nearly $607,000. The funds are used to help Mission clients with needs over and above what the Mission typically budgets for, including utility assistance, bus tokens, baby formula, prescriptions, dental and medical care, eyeglasses and so much more.
“City Union Mission is grateful for all the riders who participated in today’s event, as well as the individuals and groups who supported them with generous pledges,” said Mission Executive Director Daniel J. Doty. “We also want to thank all the volunteers and promotional sponsors who helped make this event a success. Everyone involved should feel good about the difference they’ve made in the lives of their neighbors who are homeless or struggling to provide for their families. This is an occasion we look forward to every year because of the way it brings our community together.”
