(KANSAS CITY, MO) For the second year in a row, homeless guests at City Union Mission are creating a live nativity scene at the corner of 10th and Troost this Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16, 2005 from 4-6 pm.
“We are trying to keep Christ in Christmas,” said Rod Kenner, City Union Mission’s men’s shelter administrator. “It’s also a way for our guests to publicly express their faith.”
Despite the cold weather and hours of preparation, the guests are enjoying the project. Robert Lewis, a City Union Mission guest, said, “The nativity scene is fun. I don’t even think about the cold. It’s a way to give honor to Jesus. When I do it I can almost envision what it was really like back then. It’s been a lot of sweat and tears, but it’s been joyous.”
