For the third year in a row, homeless guests on our RECON program at City Union Mission are creating a live nativity scene at the corner of 10th and Troost this Thursday, December 7, Friday, December 8, Saturday, December 9, and then again next week on Thursday, December 14, Friday, December 15, and Saturday December 16, 2006 from 4-7 pm.
“We are trying to keep Christ in Christmas,” said Rod Kenner, City Union Mission’s men’s shelter administrator. “It’s also a way for our guests to publicly express their faith.”
Despite the cold weather and hours of preparation, the guests are enjoying the project.
Jonathan Brimmer, a City Union Mission guest, said, “The nativity scene is fun. I don’t even think about the cold. It’s a way to honor Jesus and to show the city a glimpse of the true meaning of Christmas. When I do it I can almost envision what it was really like back then.”
