(KCMO) July 20 and 21 equine enthusiasts from across the Midwest came to Hale Arena, American Royal complex in KCMO, for the Kansas City’s Own Central States Benefit Horse Show.

“This was the first year for this event for American Saddlebred horses, with over 200 entries, that included some Arabians, Morgans, and Hackney Ponies. Everyone seemed pleased about the event and facility, and said they plan to come back next year.  We are really excited about it growing each year,” said Lynn McCallister, Chairman of the Horseshow Committee.  The top sponsor of the event was Dr. R. Kevin Lenahan & The Spectacle. 

Dan Doty, Executive Director of City Union Mission, said, “I believe that in the 83 year history of City Union Mission, this was the first Benefit Horse Show done for us.  I commend them for caring about the homeless and poor, and for using their interest in horses, and their riding skills to benefit others in need.”

Several participants of the event gave their prize money to City Union Mission. "The very first prize money check that I was given was from Rider Ann Rowland, from Everglades Farm, who won 3rd place," said Sandy Baldwin, Donor Relations. Proceeds from the participants and event sponsors are still coming in, and will benefit City Union Mission’s front-line ministry to Kansas City's poor or homeless.
