News at City Union Mission

We're on cable TV!
Thank You Time Warner
October 02, 2007

Time Warner has taken three of the Mission's DVDs to broadcast on Channel 113, their Kansas City On Demand channel. If you have Time Warner Digital Cable, you can go to Channel 113, press community, press Good for KC and see these videos.

Dennis Chapman, Associate Executive Director of Development, said:

We have produced several DVDs, thanks to Tom Commerford, who has volunteered his time and videography expertise. We chose three that we hope will more fully illustrate to viewers that we are far more than just a soup kitchen. We have three objectives.

  • The first is to rescue those who are homeless and hungry.

  • The second is to provide recovery programs to those who are ready to take the steps back to productive living.

  • The third objective is to prevent homelessness through our reaching out to the community.  Those include our clothes closet and food pantry, holiday programs, school supplies and help with utility bills. For these people it’s often having to choose between paying the rent, or putting food on the table. We don’t think that anybody, especially in or around our city, should have to make that choice.

The three videos running on Time Warner are:

  1. A Former client, graduate of the Christian Life Program, and now on staff, Johnny, tells of his experience of a life of drugs on the streets and how he was brought to his knees, literally, by a bullet.

  2. Former client and graduate of the Christian Life Program, Jonathan, relates how he found himself on the verge of suicide, ready to jump off the bridge on 10th Street.

  3. The kids who know best about the Vanderberg Youth Center tell this story. It’s a fun, exciting, and safe place to be!
