On December 8, 2007 at The Rose Theater at Rockhurst High School, Christian Youth Theater (CYT) and City Union Mission will partner to present Les Miserables School Edition as a benefit performance for both worthwhile organizations serving the Kansas City community.

Les Miserables is the third longest running show in Broadway history and has been seen by over 54 million people in 31 countries and 28 languages since its first London performance in 1985. The original Broadway production opened in 1987, winning 7 Tony Awards that season including Best Musical. The show went on to play a total of 6,680 performances at that theater. 

CYT is proud to present the school edition of this timeless classic, a version suitable for audiences middle school age and older. "The school edition of Les Miz is a rare find. It presents an opportunity for families to share this classic story with their older children while still maintaining the integrity of the entire story, sure to please our adult viewers," said Gina Milbourn, Artistic Director of Christian Youth Theater Kansas City.  Based on Victor Hugo's novel, Les Miserables is the most powerful story of redemption ever told through musical theater.

There is no better time of year to present such a story and to create such a partnership than the holiday season.  The gala benefit performance will be held Saturday, December 8 at 7 PM with a Les Miz Soiree starting at 5 PM including refreshments, entertainment and a silent auction. This special evening will provide opportunities for individuals, families and corporate Kansas City to enjoy a Les Miz Soiree, immerse themselves in an outstanding performance by very talented Kansas City youth, and support the mission of both organizations.
