43 New Bed & Bread Club Sponsors!
February 29, 2008

Amy Phillips, Marketing Executive with Carter Broadcasting had this to say, “Together Carter Broadcasting and City Union Mission welcomed 43 new “Bed & Bread” club sponsors, with pledges and gifts at $16,420.  The DJs and staff at Carter put their hearts into it.  And now we are already working on how we can improve things for next year.  We were all so blessed to be a part of this!”

“One caller called in to get the hotline for the homeless phone # to give to a friend who needed some help.  You know we really weren’t expecting that.  What a blessing to be able to get out over the airwaves more about why City Union Mission exists, and how we can help.  About 40% of the people who come to us are first time homeless.  They certainly didn’t expect this to happen to them.  Too many of us are just one paycheck away from losing our homes.  Next year we’ll have that number ready,” said Dennis Chapman, Associate Execute Director of Development.

“I also wasn’t expecting that the DJs would know as much about what goes on here at the Mission as they did.  They were amazing!  You really can’t count the value of making new friends.  It goes far beyond any monetary value.  The day far exceeded my expectations.  We’re looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with our friends at Carter Broadcasting.”

Sandy Baldwin, Community Relations/Major Donor Administrator, was home sick the day of the radiothon, so she was able to get a different perspective than we who were there.

“The Morning On-Air Personality, Julee, had so many positive comments about City Union Mission and the spiritual aspect of our programs.   I was blessed to hear this wonderful endorsement from one of KPRS’s respected on-air personalities.”  Please, click here to listen to some of what Julee says.

“Theo and the rap guests really brought excitement in the afternoon.  There was one funny thing that happened during the traffic and news report around 5 p.m.  While Monique was reporting a Metro Bus accident downtown a big cheer could be heard from behind her.  She quickly recovered telling listeners that the cheering was not because of the bus accident, but because the phones had rung there at the Mission to make a donation for the radiothon.  I could tell the volunteers were really excited when the phones rang.”

“Hearing how Mr. Carter, the station’s owner, encouraged his management to make donations by making his own personal donation of  $500 was so exciting…a dose of good medicine for me!”

“What a blessing to be able to listen throughout the day and hear familiar mission voices on the air!” For more on air listening please, click here and scroll down.

Karen Housholder, Media/Publicist Specialist said, “It was a very long and satisfying day for me…one that I’m so thankful to have been a part of.  I love my work!  It’s not a job.  It’s a ministry.  There are so many ways you can be involved in helping put the broken pieces of a life back together.  Maybe God is calling you here too.  I hope you’ll pay attention.  Believe me, you won’t be sorry.  Our staff and volunteers are blessed far more than you could ever imagine.”
