City Union Mission's Inaugural Event Sold Out!
April 10, 2008

Beulah Bulkley, Anita Gorman, Shirley Helzberg, Mamie Hughes, Carol Marinovich, Jeannette Nichols will be honored next Thursday, April 17th, at City Union Mission’s first annual "Women Who’ve Changed The Heart Of The City.” The event honors some of our city’s remarkable women. This year’s benefit is a luncheon on the stage of the Starlight Theatre. Due to overwhelming response this premiere event is sold out, but there are still opportunities for honorary sponsorships.

Funds raised from this first annual event will be used to complete critical renovations to Camp CUMCITO (City Union Mission’s Camp in the Ozarks) in Warsaw, Missouri, where each summer up to 500 homeless and impoverished inner city children escape the grind of their daily lives and experience God’s unconditional love.

The renovations to the camp are part of City Union Mission’s Capital Campaign,” Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives.” The project includes a new facility for their long-term recovery program raising the number of men from 50 to 100, and renovations to the Mission’s existing men’s shelter doubling capacity there to 300. It is only the second time in 84 years they have asked the community for capital funding.

Dan Doty, Executive Director, “The response has been amazing. Our mission of rescuing, restoring and reaching out to the lost and hurting, isn’t possible without the support of a caring community.  We’re so grateful for the outpouring of love from our city.”

Funding for the Capital Campaign has included gifts from corporations, private foundations, and individuals. “There is still $2.8 million to raise. The mission has a limited number of Missouri state tax credits available until April 30 for those wishing to donate to the capital campaign. Even though the "Women Who’ve Changed The Heart Of The City" event is sold out there are still opportunities available to those who want to honor these remarkable women,“ said Dennis Chapman, Associate Executive Director of Development.
