Gaudalupe Center expected a donation of 22 turkeys for the Thanksgiving feast they provide each year to about 800 men, women, and children. Unfortunately that donation fell through and they had to find another way to obtain the turkeys.
Sonya Lopez from the Center said, “We were counting on this donation but understand how the economy is really impacting our donors’ ability to give. I shared our dilemma with our representative from US Foods, Mark Woodworth.”
“I just mentioned it to Jon Capp at City Union Mission and he said he thought they might be able to help the Center out,” Mark said. “I just want to thank them for assisting Guadalupe Center at this time. It’s a bit scary thinking about how the people who rely upon them for this Thanksgiving feast each year would be cared for.”
“It means so much to us that City Union Mission would share with us. Our families have come to depend upon us for their Thanksgiving. We are very pleased and very grateful,” said Sonya.
“We know what it’s like to have this kind of thing happen. None of us want to have to turn someone away who needs our help. And the fact is many of us are just one paycheck away from relying upon area missions and centers for the basics. We’re all seeing an increase in the demand for services, especially food,” said Jon Capp, Associate Executive Director of Physical Operations. “We’re just thankful that we had the turkeys to share and that this is working out.”
