Homeless Men's Ministry

Each day, dozens of men come to City Union Mission Men's Center for clothing, food, and temporary refuge from life on the streets. Here they find people who care about them, listen to them, and work with them to meet their physical and spiritual needs. continue reading

Women and Family Shelter

The Emergency Family Shelter at City Union Mission is a haven for families and single women. There are many causes of homelessness in families, including financial setbacks, addiction, family violence, and mental illness. The Family Shelter provides a safe place to stay, nutritious meals, spiritual counsel, and case management to address and help resolve some of the issues they face. continue reading

Hotline for the Homeless

Thousands of homeless people find shelter from the streets through the Hotline for the Homeless, a service of City Union Mission. Men, women and families call the Hotline at 816-474-4599 to find out which Kansas City shelters can provide temporary shelter for the night. The Hotline, a free service, works with other shelters to provide accurate information 24 hours a day. continue reading

Medical Services

City Union Mission offers free medical care to indigent men, women, and families. Recovery

Christian Life Program

This long-term program is available to men who have responded to the Gospel and want to grow as Christians and as responsible members of the community. Daily Bible classes, individual and group counseling, drug and alcohol recovery, job assignments, and life skills courses are required. Attendance at area churches and opportunities for further education make up this comprehensive one-year program. Opportunity Farm

Located in the Ozark hills near Warsaw, Missouri, the Farm provides a place where men can get away from the pressure of Kansas City streets. Around 20 men live at Opportunity Farm year-round. There, simple living is characterized by bunkhouses, wood burning stoves, a comfortable lodge for fellowship and meals, and 500 acres for working, walking, and meditation. During the fall, winter, and spring months, the men maintain the farm and campgrounds, assisted by the professional skills of the staff. Each man is committed to the Christian Life Program, and is involved in a local church, along with daily Bible study, discipleship, and the fellowship of his brothers in Christ.     continue reading

New Life Program

Families and single women at the Mission's Family Shelter can enter the four-to-eight month New Life Program that offers rehabilitation to whole families. Members attend Bible study, local churches, and have regular counseling sessions. Life Skills courses guide each person toward a healthier lifestyle. Families live in the shelter, while parents and children alike stabilize and prepare to move into permanent housing. continue reading

Biblical Counseling

Guests at City Union Mission's shelters and members of the rehabilitation/discipleship programs, receive family and individual counseling free of charge. Learning Centers

Located at City Union Mission Men's Center, Family Center, and Opportunity Farm, our Learning Centers offer educational advancement to low-income and homeless adults. Using "user-friendly" computer programs designed especially for the homeless and the learning disabled, students grow not only in knowledge, but also in self-worth, self-respect and self-confidence, as they work toward their G.E.D. or to improve vocabulary and other skills. continue reading

Life Skills Classes

Many of the homeless find themselves on the streets again and again. To help break this tragic cycle, we offer Life Skills classes to men and women in the community and in our shelters. The series of classes include Parenting, Decision-Making, Communication, Nutrition, Money Management, Drug Awareness, Relapse Prevention and much more. Mountain Movers, a Christian ten-step program, allows participants to explore their addictive and sinful behavior and God's response to that behavior in a group setting. continue reading

Reaching Out

Camp CUMCITO - City Union Misson's Camp In The Ozarks

It takes many hands to make the camp operational -- from counselors to cooks, and each summer more than 250 volunteer for one-week or more. These volunteers are growing, maturing Christians and have participated regularly in a church for the preceding year. Community Assistance

The Mission provides extensive, compassionate service to low-income community residents. Relief efforts include the distribution of food, clothing, school supplies, household items, utility assistance, case management, referrals of affordable housing, Life Skills classes, and services to homebound elderly and disabled people. continue reading

Holiday Ministry

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, Mission supporters collect and donate thousands of pounds of holiday food for the low-income community. An established network of churches throughout Kansas City helps the Mission distribute this food to about 350 needy families who receive holiday baskets filled to the brim with a Thanksgiving feast. continue reading

Vanderberg Youth Center

Children, ages 7 to 17, participate each week in Bible study, organized play, crafts, drama, and homework tutoring at the Vanderberg Youth Center (VYC). continue reading

Servant Leadership Institute (sLi)

The Servant Leadership Institute (sLi) is a training and education program created by the City Union Mission that prepares its participants for a career in rescue mission ministry.  The 12-month training includes hands on work at the Mission working with staff and clients, as well as classroom studies taught by Mission leadership.  Servant Leadership Institute is comprehensive, Christ centered and designed to help the poor and homeless to once again become contributing members of society. continue reading
