Mission Moments - Snapshots from the Soul

Every person who passes through the doors of City Union Mission has a unique story to tell - every man, every woman, and every child. Some stories are gripping, some are interesting, and some are heartwarming, while others are heartbreaking.

We have captured several stories that may change the way you view homelessness forever. Here is your chance to take a glimpse into the lives of a few of our precious clients, volunteers, and donors. We hope you will take a minute to engross yourself in these powerful testimonies.  Please place yourself in their shoes, and join them in their past sorrows as well as their newfound joy.

Angelica

Angelica became homeless due to financial difficulties and being addicted to cocaine. On top of having problems with the drug dealers in my neighborhood; there were too many people she knew that could influence her into making the wrong choices that would lead to chaos.

Being homeless was frustrating to the point where her very sanity was being tested on a daily basis. She was living out of her car with her two year old son, going from house to house just to take showers. She said:

I came to City Union Mission in an attempt to get away. At the Mission, I finally came to the understanding that all that I had attempted to do to put my life together and keep it like that on a long term basis had failed. During chapel one night, when the NLP (New Life Program) did their presentation, I experienced the love of Jesus Christ and the cleansing of my very soul.

Her goals are:

  • To keep growing in Christ,
  • To be an active member in her church,
  • To evangelize the Hispanic community,
  • To be a contributing member of society,
  • To go back to school to further her education in law, and
  • To raise her son in a positive environment with loving, caring people surrounding them.

Like Angelica, your soul can be cleansed and you can experience the love of Jesus Christ. Click here to find out how.
